On the run again for a couple weeks. Haven't had much time to update lately. However, I hope to post new work in the photography section soon after I get back. Until the next update..
Sadly, my friend Killian Mansfield passed away last Thursday, August 20th, 2009. The cancer just was too much, even for someone as strong as Killian. He was truly an amazing person and inspired so many. He was only 16. It is another constant reminder in this world to appreciate & be thankful for what you have in life (friends, family, health) as well as to make the most of your life. To try new things, make memories, and keep a positive attitude.
I and many, many other people will never forget you Killian. July 9th, 1993 - August 20th, 2009 A little over a month ago, I did a small post on my friend Killian.
Anyway his album, titled Somewhere Else, just actually released a couple of days ago and was at one point as high as #27 on Amazon's Top 100 Bestselling Music List. To read the story behind Killian, you can read the following article: http://www.ulsterpublishing.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=article&articleID=493185 If you wish to show your support, you can purchase a copy of the album on Amazon. Here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/Somewhere-Else-Killian-Mansfield/dp/B002AMUJGQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1250564623&sr=8-1 I decided I'm going to start doing a few more blog entries other than just updates. Through these entries, I will attempt to show where some of my inspiration is derived from. Anyway, this entry is about an artist who I met recently named Tom Meuninck. Tom is a very respected artist and does amazing work. He does a lot of painted sculptures (usually of animals) as well as painting on pottery. I'm guessing he does a lot more than this (in fact, I'm sure he does), but that's mostly what I saw when I visited his studio (and home) in North Liberty, Indiana. It is in the woods and is a great place for someone's imagination to run wild. He was in the middle of a piece for an installation with an "End of the World" type theme. I don't think I could show you the entire thing, but here are some little details to give you a peek into this insane piece. It really is mind blowing, I think my jaw dropped when I saw it and noticed all the details. Some random pieces from him that he had hung up on the outside of his studio. Inside his studio. Excuse some of the low quality of some of the pictures, it wasn't always easy lighting to shoot in. Not pictured here, but he also did a Christmas ornament for the White House last year and has a picture of George Bush standing next to it. Very impressive. I showed Tom some of my work. His favorite was my I.D. logo. He said it looked like a Japanese/Asian sign in a way. I could definitely see that as well. He gave me some great compliments, which is an honor coming from him. The two artists side by side.
